Week 1 Introduction to the Diet
Introduction to the concept of macronutrients: Many people understand that when we eat or drink anything but water it contains calories. Some people have at least a basic understanding that calories can come from protein or fat or carbohydrates. This portion of the class will focus on teaching this concept and explaining the significance to overall weight management.
Review composition goals: Unfortunately the “calorie in” vs “calorie out” model of eating and dieting doesn’t work. It is not that simple for a variety of reasons most of which are hormonal. This portion of the class will focus on teaching the concept of how you get your calories in matters more than the calories themselves.
Eliminating sabotaging agents: Learning how to distinguish between foods that will help you in your quest to get healthier is a critical step in this journey.
Psychosocial aspects of dieting: Everyone encounters obstacles in their journey to get healthier. This portion of the class will be spent on identifying these before they completely derail your efforts.
Meal and menu planning: We will end each class with a recipe to get you started on a new healthier you!
