On June 11th Dr Christofides was asked to join the Buckeye State Vietnam Veteran’s Council at their annual retreat. At the meeting they honored her with a plaque recognizing her efforts on behalf of Ohio Veterans.
I have always held the belief that our warriors and our veterans deserve our utmost respect and attention. These individuals who freely give of their lives so that we may freely live ours are the true heroes of this world.
Our veterans in Vietnam were one of the first generations to be exposed to chemical warfare and it reeked havoc with their endocrine system. Many of them suffer from diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease and have passed on mutation risks to their offspring. The studies confirming this relationship allows veterans to apply for disability benefits through the VA.
I work for our veterans, addressing their endocrine diseases based on the science of how the chemical warfare has impacted them. I help them gather the data needed to get their rightful benefits.
This is why I was awarded ‘Veteran Advocate of the Year’ and I couldn’t be more honored.
