While reading http://sett.com/dicktalens I found myself saying “But these are the same reasons doctors are the last person a patient should ask for help when they need nutrition or exercise advice.” Medical school is designed not for optimizing health but ensuring the physician develops the skills necessary to recognize disease & treat it before the patient dies of it. The bureaucracy that runs the medical system likes having a codified set of rules so they embrace their sister organizations (like both ADAs) that bolster their position. This leads to perpetuating myths, inaccuracies & out right lies so as not to upset the system. Therefore anyone who wants to learn about health & nutrition has to teach themselves. I feel very fortunate that my educational foundation is solid enough that I can do this. Sadly, not all endocrinologists can or even care to let alone the primary care providers. Bottom line? I agree with all the points in this article. So if you want to get good health, nutrition & exercise advice you’re going to have to do your research & find a good medical partner.
